The Smartpen by Livescribe converts your handwritten notes and sketches to a PDF or image file, without you having to scan or photograph the page. The Smartpen uses special paper with tiny dots on it. There is a tiny infrared camera in the tip of the pen that reads the dots and captures what you write or draw.
If you download the free Livescribe+ app to your smartphone or tablet, it recognises your handwriting and converts it into text that you can edit. If the Bluetooth connection drops out, anything you write during that time will be automatically synced up with the app once the Bluetooth reconnects.
You can also pair it with an Apple or Android mobile device (or laptop or desktop computer) to capture audio while you write. The audio is timestamped with your handwriting. That means, once your notes are in digital form, you can select a word and it will play what was being recorded at the exact time you wrote that word or phrase. It makes reviewing your notes faster and easier because you can go right to the point you need and be reminded of what was said.
